Mobile Computers for Hazardous Environments | What does ATEX mean for you? Until 1 July 2003, there was no obligation to assess work places as potentially explosive environments, such as those found in oil refineries, chemical plants, flour mills and other industrial sites where flammable gases, vapours, liquids or explosive dust clouds, may be present. With the ATEX requirements, which are now European law, all electronic equipment must be certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. Using electrical equipment in these areas can spark explosions, which is why, for example, you need to switch your mobile phone off when refuelling your car.
From 1st July 2003 all equipment used in hazardous areas must carry the EX mark to prove it meets the safety standards of the European Directive ATEX 95/137. |
ATEX Certified Hand-held computers Symbol MC9090 and Intermec CK32 I Safe These devices are hand-held computers with barcode scanners that are fully approved as intrinsically safe (I Safe) for use in these environments. They are certified to ATEX requirements for use in hazardous Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas where explosive atmospheres are likely to occur in normal operation. In addition they are sealed to at least IP67 standard (waterproof and dust proof). Symbols MC9090 and Intermec's CK32 I Safe are both available in a range of options to suit most requirements, and with a full range of accessories. | |

The MC 9090ex-G Mobile Computer version with a pistol grip is a compact unit for safe barcode scanning in hazardous areas. The scan trigger is conveniently positioned at the pistol grip. Thus barcodes can be captured with only one hand.
The integrated radio module enables real time data access to your host system.
The MC 9090ex-G combines the strength of Microsoft‘s Pocket PC platform with the power of the Intel® XScaleTM PXA270 processor with 624 MHz.
A further highlight is the large easy-to-read 1/4 VGA color display with touchscreen technology. The MC 9090ex-G is working with the IEEE 802.11a/b/g radio standard (direct sequence).
